Good and Evil Talk

We are having our monthly public meeting on Tuesday. Here is more about the topic, from the newspaper article written by the speaker, Betty Frost.

WHY DOES GOD PERMIT EVIL TO EXIST?

Next Tuesday evening, June 9th at 8:00 p.m. in the Garfield Disher Room of Dunnville's Library, this subject will be explored by speaker, Betty Frost.

Many people over the years have asked the question as to why God permits evil to exist, especially when they think about horrendous events such as the Holocaust; any of the wars which have been so viciously fought down through the ages; persecution for whatever reason; individual acts of
violence - or following a senseless act of terrorism in which innocent people are killed.

In the presentation, the question of what is evil will be explored. One dictionary summarizes evil as 'that which violates or leads to the violation of moral law; violating or inconsistent with moral law; anything causing injury or harm." Unless we are declared atheists, most of us probably believe that God established moral law. Since God is All-Powerful, how is it that so many of these laws are broken every day? Why do we see hatred, racism, violence, anger, self centeredness, greed, a relentless desire for power, etc.?

These questions will be considered during the meeting along with a belief which was commonly held that Satan is responsible. Is there such a being? Another question is if evil is innate within the character of man, isn't war (a definite evil) inevitable? Is there anything we can we do if we
perceive something as evil ?

from the section called:

AROUND TOWN

Tuesday, June 9
In the Garfield Disher Room of Dunnville's Library, Betty Frost will examine the question: Why Does God Permit Evil to Exist? Since many people have had their faith in God shaken when some horrendous thing has happened to them or to others, this theme may well be of interest to many.

8:00 p.m.

All welcome

A completely relevant look at Jekyll and Hyde and its metaphor for good and evil:
