Baha'i Jazz Vocalist Tierney Sutton
As Sutton explains in the liner notes, “Desire” is a concept album of sorts, the songs all focusing on the titular emotion. But not just at the usual intersection of love and lust: “…to anyone who knows me, it’s no surprise that ‘desire’ quickly became a meditation on materialism.”
Sutton goes on to inform her audience that she has been practicing Baha’i for more than 25 years; indeed, the disc opens with an atmospheric chant derived from Baha’i texts. This, she adds, has long informed her approach to lyric: “I have often interpreted songs … from a spiritual perspective.” -http://www.examiner.com/x-12458-Oakland-Jazz-Music-Examiner~y2009m8d6-Tierney-Sutton-brings-her-Desire-to-weekend-San-Jose-Jazz-Festival
Tierney is truly an unrecognized talent and beauty with a phenomenal voice. Her humility is genuine and is why she will continue to be an example of greatness." -youtube comment
