Here is the LSA of Haldimand's announcement of our monthly fireside,  which is published in the form of a letter to the editor in the Dunnville Chronicle,

CONSULTATION vs. CONFRONTATION: Are There Answers out There?

This rather unusual title was chosen by Nancy Ackerman, the next speaker of the regular monthly meeting sponsored by the Haldimand Baha'i Community which will take place on Wednesday, January 12th at 8:00 p.m. in the Garfield Disher Room of Dunnville's library.

Nancy is a linguist and specialist in community development. She has a background in music and communications and has been an active member of the Baha'i community for over 35 years. She has a longstanding concern for issues of social justice and cooperative decision-making, applying her experience at the international, national, and local levels on three continents.

Her talk will focus on a number of important questions such as "Is conflict inherent in human nature? Why is it so difficult for world leaders to make urgent decisions about the environment, or border disputes, economics, or trade..? And even when decisions ARE taken, why is it so difficult for human beings to carry them through?

"When countries adopt 'democracy' why is everyone fighting? As the world becomes an increasingly 'global' community, is it possible for us to learn to work successfully in groups? Can the world ever become truly united? How can individuals contribute to building unity?"

We may not think of these particular questions every day, but as we follow the news, some of them must certainly arouse our curiosity and deep concern. Nancy will be exploring some of these questions from her own experience and that of the worldwide Baha'i community. She told me that she is looking forward to questions following the talk and any comments you may wish to make. There will, of course, be refreshments and socializing. Please join us for what we feel will be a most interesting evening.
